A Powerful Prayer for Forgiving a Friend Who Betrayed Trust

Listen to this article

Heavenly Father,

I come before You with a heart that is heavy and wounded. I have been hurt by someone close to me, a friend whom I trusted deeply. In this moment of pain, I turn to You, seeking Your grace and guidance.

Lord Jesus, You taught us to love one another as You have loved us. You showed compassion to all, even to those who betrayed You. When Judas, one of Your own disciples, handed You over, You still called him “friend.” Your heart was full of forgiveness, even on the cross, as You prayed, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” I ask for that same spirit of forgiveness to fill my heart now.

Holy Spirit, work within me to soften my heart. Remove any bitterness, anger, or desire for revenge. Help me to see my friend through Your eyes, with love and understanding. Teach me to let go of my hurt and to embrace the healing that comes from forgiving others, just as I have been forgiven by You.

Father, I remember the words of Your Son, who said, “If you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” I know that forgiveness is not only an act of mercy towards others but also a path to my own freedom and peace. Give me the strength to take this step, even when it feels difficult.

I pray for my friend, Lord. Bless them and bring healing to their heart as well. Restore our relationship, if it is Your will, and help us to rebuild trust. Let this experience draw us both closer to You and to each other.

In all things, may Your will be done. I surrender my pain and my desire for justice into Your hands, trusting that You are a just and loving God. Fill me with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, and guide me in the way of love and reconciliation.

In the name of Jesus, who forgave even His enemies, I pray.

Amen.
