“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10, NIV)
The Longing for Heaven’s Rule on Earth
Throughout history, God’s people have cried out for His reign to break into the brokenness of this world. From Israel’s captivity in Babylon to the early church suffering under Roman persecution, believers have prayed for the day when Christ’s authority would transform nations and hearts. This prayer echoes through centuries of injustice, war, famine, and oppression. It rises from the lips of those who witness corruption in governments, violence in streets, and darkness in systems that crush the weak. Christians pray for God’s kingdom because we know that human solutions fail and that only divine intervention can bring true peace and righteousness.
Today, this prayer remains urgent as millions face persecution for their faith, as refugees flee war-torn lands, and as the gospel faces resistance in closed nations. Believers in restricted countries risk their lives to worship, while others struggle against poverty, disease, and exploitation. We pray for God’s kingdom to advance because we long to see His justice replace corruption, His love overcome hatred, and His truth displace lies. This is not merely a prayer for personal comfort but a bold declaration that Jesus Christ is Lord and that His purposes will prevail over every earthly power. We ask that what is true in heaven becomes reality here: freedom for captives, healing for the sick, hope for the despairing, and salvation for the lost.
Prayer for the Believer in a Hostile Land
Heavenly Father, I come before You on behalf of my brother and sister who live where Your name is forbidden and Your word is banned. They wake each day knowing that their faith could cost them their freedom or their life. They gather in secret, whispering Your praises in locked rooms, passing torn pages of Scripture between trembling hands. Their courage shames my comfortable prayers. Their faithfulness challenges my lukewarm devotion.
Establish Your kingdom in that dark place, Lord. Let the light of Christ penetrate every locked door and every hardened heart. Send dreams and visions to those who have never heard the gospel. Raise up bold witnesses who will speak Your truth despite the threats. Protect the underground churches that meet in basements and forests. Strengthen pastors who shepherd flocks while hiding from authorities. Give wisdom to believers who must decide each day whether to stay silent or speak up.
Break the chains that bind those nations in spiritual darkness. Topple the idols that governments have raised in place of Your glory. Expose the lies that keep millions from knowing You. Pour out Your Spirit on young and old, that they might prophesy and see visions of Your coming kingdom. Let no weapon formed against Your church succeed. Turn the hearts of persecutors as You turned Saul on the Damascus road. Show them that they are fighting against the living God.
Amen.
Prayer for Justice in Corrupt Systems
Father God, You see the systems of injustice that grind down the poor and lift up the wicked. You watch as judges take bribes and officials steal from public funds meant for hospitals and schools. You hear the cries of families whose loved ones disappear into prisons without trial. You know the names of children who starve while grain rots in warehouses guarded by armed men. You witness the exploitation of workers paid pennies for backbreaking labor. You observe the trafficking of human beings sold like animals. You count the tears of mothers who bury sons killed by violence that serves the interests of the powerful. Your anger burns against these evils.
Bring Your kingdom into courtrooms where verdicts are bought and sold. Raise up judges who fear You more than they fear losing their positions. Plant believers in government offices who will refuse to participate in schemes of corruption. Give them courage to expose wrongdoing even when it costs them their careers. Protect whistleblowers who risk everything to reveal the truth. Send Your Spirit to convict the hearts of those who have grown comfortable with dishonesty. Let them see that their wealth is stained with the blood of the innocent. Grant them no peace until they repent and make restitution. Turn their sleepless nights into encounters with Your holiness.
Defend the cause of the orphan and the widow, Lord. Stand with the refugee who has no one to plead their case. Be the advocate for those who cannot afford lawyers. Let Your justice roll down like waters and Your righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. Overturn tables as Jesus did in the temple. Drive out those who profit from the suffering of others. Establish leaders who love mercy, act justly, and walk humbly before You. Let Your kingdom come in every office, every parliament, every court, and every council. May Your will be done in laws that protect the vulnerable and punish the oppressor. Transform these broken systems into instruments of Your righteousness. We trust that You are the judge of all the earth and that You will do what is right.
Amen.
Prayer for Revival in the Church
Lord Jesus, Your church was born in fire and power. The early believers turned the world upside down with the message of Your resurrection. They shared all they had, cared for the sick, and faced death with songs on their lips. They prayed and the earth shook. They preached and thousands believed. But now, in many places, Your church has grown cold. We have traded Your presence for programs, Your power for popularity, and Your truth for comfort.
Revive us, Lord. Pour out Your Spirit on congregations that have forgotten why they exist. Awaken pastors who have grown weary and cynical. Ignite a hunger for Your word in hearts that have been satisfied with shallow teaching. Strip away the distractions that keep us from seeking Your face. Convict us of our love for worldly approval and our fear of standing out. Show us where we have compromised Your message to avoid offense.
Bring Your kingdom into our worship services, our Bible studies, and our committee meetings. Let us stop pretending that our efforts can build what only You can build. Teach us to wait on You, to listen for Your voice, to obey Your leading even when it makes no sense to human wisdom. Heal the divisions that have splintered Your body. Help us to lay down our preferences and our pride. Unite us around the cross and the empty tomb.
Send us out as witnesses, Lord. Give us boldness to speak of You in our neighborhoods and our workplaces. Help us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. Make us known by our love, not by our arguments. Let the world see Jesus in us and be drawn to Him. Advance Your kingdom through Your people, one changed life at a time.
Amen.
Prayer for Nations Closed to the Gospel
Almighty God, You have promised that every tribe and tongue and nation will bow before Your throne. Yet today, billions live in lands where the gospel is forbidden by law and suppressed by force. Governments have closed their borders to missionaries and banned the import of Bibles. They have made conversion illegal and punished evangelism with imprisonment. They teach their children that Christians are enemies of the state. They spread lies about who You are and what You have done.
Your kingdom recognizes no borders, Lord. Your Spirit moves where He wills. No government can stop You from reaching those You have chosen to save. You opened Lydia’s heart in Philippi and You can open hearts in Tehran, Pyongyang, and Kabul. You spoke to Cornelius through an angel and You can speak to Muslims, Buddhists, and Hindus through dreams and visions. You brought down the Berlin Wall and You can tear down every barrier that keeps people from knowing You.
Raise up believers who will smuggle Scriptures across borders and share the gospel at great personal risk. Multiply the impact of every Bible that enters a closed nation. Let one copy pass through a hundred hands. Give creative strategies to those who broadcast Your word through radio, internet, and satellite. Protect their signals from being jammed and their websites from being blocked. Use technology that oppressive regimes cannot control.
Strengthen new believers who have no church to attend and no mature Christian to disciple them. Be their teacher and their comforter. Bring them into contact with other believers so they do not face this path alone. Give them an unshakeable confidence in Your love. Prepare them for the suffering that may come when their faith is discovered. Grant them joy in persecution and peace in prison.

Work in the hearts of government leaders, Lord. Soften the hearts of those who can be softened. Remove from power those who have set themselves against You. Bring down regimes that wage war against Your people. Establish leaders who will allow freedom of worship and freedom of conscience. Let the gospel run freely through those lands and bear abundant fruit. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Amen.
Prayer for the Global Harvest of Souls
Father, You do not want any to perish but all to come to repentance. Your heart breaks for the lost. You sent Your Son to seek and save those who have wandered from You. You gave Him as a ransom for many. You raised Him from the dead so that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. Now You have sent us to proclaim this good news to every creature.
The fields are ripe for harvest, Lord, but the workers are few. Send out laborers into Your harvest field. Call young men and women to give their lives to taking the gospel to unreached peoples. Stir the hearts of families to move to hard places where Christ is not known. Provide the financial support they need so they can go without delay. Remove obstacles that keep them from obeying Your call.
Open doors for the gospel in resistant communities. Prepare hearts to receive the message. Grant signs and wonders that confirm the truth of Your word. Heal the sick in Jesus’ name so that people will know He is alive. Cast out demons and set captives free from spiritual bondage. Let the power of the gospel be demonstrated, not just preached.
Multiply churches in every nation. Raise up indigenous leaders who know the language and culture of their people. Give them wisdom to communicate timeless truth in ways that connect with their context. Protect them from false teaching and from the temptations of power and wealth. Keep them humble and dependent on You. Establish churches that will plant other churches, spreading the gospel like fire through dry grass.
Tear down the strongholds that keep people groups unreached. Break the hold of Islam in the Middle East, Hinduism in South Asia, Buddhism in East Asia, and animism in tribal regions. You are stronger than every false god and every lying spirit. Let Your kingdom advance into every dark corner of this earth.
Hasten the day when representatives from every language and ethnicity will stand before Your throne singing Your praises. Fulfill Your promise that the gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. Complete what You have started. Finish the great commission in our generation. Let Your kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Amen.
Prayer for Transformation in a Broken City
Lord of heaven and earth, I stand in the middle of a city that groans under the weight of its sin. Violence erupts on street corners where children should play safely. Drugs enslave young people who once had dreams and potential. Gangs offer belonging to teenagers abandoned by broken families. Prostitution traps women in cycles of abuse and exploitation. Homeless men and women sleep in doorways while empty buildings decay around them. The wealthy live behind walls, indifferent to the suffering just blocks away. Schools fail to educate, hospitals turn away the uninsured, and police struggle to maintain order. Despair hangs over neighborhoods like a fog that will not lift. Hope seems like a cruel joke to those who have watched every promise of change amount to nothing. People survive but they do not flourish. They exist but they do not truly live. This is not what You intended when You created humanity in Your image.
Bring Your kingdom to this city, Father. Let Your will be done in these streets as it is done in heaven. Raise up churches that will be centers of hope and healing. Give pastors a vision for their cities that goes beyond Sunday services. Show them how to mobilize their congregations to address real needs in practical ways. Help believers to see that evangelism and justice are not competing priorities but two sides of the same gospel. Teach us to proclaim good news to the poor, not just with our words but with our actions. Give us faith to believe that You can transform the hardest hearts and redeem the most broken lives. Protect us from cynicism and burnout. Renew our strength when we grow weary of seeing so little progress. Remind us that You are the one who changes hearts, and our job is simply to be faithful.
Bring peace to this city, Lord. Intervene in gang conflicts before they escalate into bloodshed. Turn enemies into friends. Replace hatred with forgiveness. Give young men and women a vision of a different kind of life, one where they use their strength to protect rather than harm. Raise up mentors who will invest in at-risk youth. Provide jobs for those who want to work but cannot find opportunities. Break the cycles of poverty and crime that trap families for generations. Heal the trauma that drives people to addiction and violence. Restore what has been stolen from this community. Rebuild what has been torn down. Make this city a testimony to Your power to save and transform.
Amen.
Prayer for Believers in the Marketplace
Heavenly Father, You have placed Your people in every sphere of society. We are not all called to be pastors or missionaries in the traditional sense. You have called some to be teachers, nurses, engineers, farmers, shop owners, accountants, and factory workers. You have positioned us in offices, hospitals, schools, fields, and markets. We spend most of our waking hours in these places, and You intend for us to represent Your kingdom there.
Help us to see our work as a calling, not just a paycheck. Teach us to do our jobs with excellence as an act of worship. Show us how to be salt and light in environments that are often hostile to Christian values. Give us courage to refuse to participate in dishonest practices even when everyone else does. Grant us wisdom to know when to speak and when to be silent. Let our integrity be so evident that even those who reject our faith respect our character.
Use us to advance Your kingdom in the marketplace, Lord. Give us opportunities to share the gospel with coworkers who are searching for meaning. Help us to ask good questions and listen carefully to their stories. Let our lives provoke curiosity about the hope we carry. When we face ethical dilemmas, give us clarity about what You require and boldness to obey even when it costs us. Protect our jobs and our reputations when we choose Your way over the world’s way. Provide for our families when standing for righteousness results in financial loss.
Amen.
Prayer for Victory Over Spiritual Forces of Darkness
Father, we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, cosmic powers, and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. The enemy of our souls is real and active. He prowls like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. He disguises himself as an angel of light to deceive even the elect if possible. He accuses Your people day and night before Your throne. He blinds the minds of unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel. He sows discord in churches and deception in the world.
But greater are You, Lord, than the one who is in the world. You have disarmed the powers and authorities and made a public spectacle of them by triumphing over them at the cross. You have given us authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy. You have equipped us with the armor of God so we can stand firm against the schemes of the devil. You have given us weapons that are not of this world but have divine power to demolish strongholds. We are not victims in this spiritual battle. We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
Advance Your kingdom by defeating the enemy’s plans, Father. Expose the lies he has planted in the minds of believers and unbelievers alike. Tear down the ideologies and philosophies that set themselves up against the knowledge of God. Break the power of occult practices, witchcraft, and false religions that hold people in bondage. Set free those who have been enslaved to sin and Satan. Cast out demons that torment and oppress Your children. Heal those who suffer from the enemy’s attacks on their minds and bodies. Grant Your church discernment to recognize spiritual warfare and wisdom to respond appropriately.
Bind the strong man and plunder his house, Lord. Reclaim territory that has been under the enemy’s control. Plant churches in places that have been strongholds of darkness. Send Your light into the darkest corners of human existence. Let no weapon formed against Your people prosper. Silence every tongue that rises against us in judgment. Cover us with the blood of Jesus and surround us with Your angels. Fill us with Your Spirit so that we operate in Your power, not our own strength. Let Your kingdom come and Your will be done in the spiritual realms as well as the physical. Hasten the day when Satan will be thrown into the lake of fire and the kingdoms of this world will become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ.
Amen.
Prayer for the Next Generation to Know and Serve God
Lord God, You have always worked through generations. You made promises to Abraham and fulfilled them in his descendants. You called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and raised up Joshua to lead them into the promised land. You spoke through the prophets to warn and encourage Your people. You sent Your Son, born of a woman, to accomplish our salvation. You established Your church and commissioned it to make disciples of all nations. Each generation has the responsibility to pass the faith to the next. Each must tell the coming generation about Your mighty acts and faithful love.
Yet today, many young people are walking away from the faith. They grow up in Christian homes and attend church services, but when they reach adulthood, they abandon what they were taught. They find the world more appealing than the kingdom of God. They believe the lies of the culture more readily than the truth of Scripture. They see hypocrisy in the church and conclude that Christianity is empty. They experience suffering and doubt Your goodness. They are bombarded with messages that contradict Your word, and they lack the foundation to stand firm. Parents and church leaders watch in grief as children they poured their lives into turn away from You.
Reverse this trend, Father. Pour out Your Spirit on the next generation. Give them genuine encounters with You that cannot be explained away or forgotten. Let them experience Your presence in ways that mark them forever. Protect them from the enemy’s lies. Open their eyes to see the emptiness of what the world offers. Show them that true life, real joy, and lasting peace are found only in You. Surround them with godly mentors who will invest in them. Raise up youth leaders who love You passionly and communicate Your truth effectively.
Help parents to pass on their faith authentically, not just religiously. Teach them to talk about You naturally in their homes, not just at church. Give them wisdom to model repentance and dependence on You. Show them how to create space for honest questions and doubts. Equip them to engage with the cultural issues their children face without compromising Your truth. Grant them patience when their children rebel and hope when their children wander. Bring prodigals home, Lord, as You brought the prodigal son home to his father.
Call young men and women into ministry, missions, and marketplace leadership. Give them a vision of what You can do through fully surrendered lives. Show them that following You is not boring or restrictive but the greatest purpose they could ever have. Use them to reach their peers with the gospel. Let them see their friends come to faith and their schools and universities transformed by the power of Your Spirit. Raise up a generation that will take Your kingdom further than any generation before. Let them finish what we have left undone.
Amen.
Prayer for Christ’s Return and the Fullness of God’s Kingdom
Heavenly Father, we live in the tension between the already and the not yet. Your kingdom has come in the person of Jesus Christ. He inaugurated Your reign through His life, death, and resurrection. He defeated sin and death and established a kingdom that will never end. He sent Your Spirit to dwell in us and empower us to be His witnesses. We have tasted the powers of the age to come. We have seen glimpses of what life under Your rule looks like. We have experienced healing, deliverance, transformation, and joy that the world cannot give. Your kingdom is here, among us, within us.
And yet we still wait for the fullness of Your kingdom. We still live in a world marred by sin and death. We still struggle with temptation and weakness. We still witness injustice and suffering. We still see the enemy at work. We still bury loved ones and shed tears of grief. We still groan inwardly as we wait for the redemption of our bodies. We still long for the day when every tear will be wiped away and death will be no more. Creation itself groans as it waits to be set free from its bondage to decay. We are like watchmen waiting for the dawn, like exiles longing for home.
Come, Lord Jesus. Return as You promised. Split the eastern sky and descend with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and the trumpet call of God. Gather Your people from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Raise the dead in Christ and transform the living in the blink of an eye. Give us resurrection bodies that will never grow weak or sick or old. Wipe away every tear from our eyes. Take away all mourning and crying and pain.
Judge the living and the dead, Lord. Reward those who have been faithful. Give crowns to those who have endured suffering for Your name. Vindicate those who were persecuted for righteousness. Punish those who oppressed Your people and rejected Your grace. Throw death and Hades into the lake of fire. Banish sin and Satan forever from Your presence. Create new heavens and a new earth where righteousness dwells. Bring the New Jerusalem down from heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Dwell with us forever, Father. Let us see Your face and bear Your name on our foreheads. Reign over us in perfect justice and perfect love. Let Your glory be our light and Your presence be our joy. Fulfill every promise You have made. Complete every prophecy You have spoken. Establish Your kingdom in its fullness so that Your will is done on earth exactly as it is done in heaven. We wait for that day with hope and longing. We pray with Your church throughout the ages: Come, Lord Jesus, come. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Amen.
